By mistake I mixed two 5 gal buckets of hyd/trans with one 5 gal bucket 10/30 and put it in the trans of my farmall 400. Will this do any damage to the trans. cause of cost I dont want to replace it but will if i have to. The tractor has one hyd hook up that I run a disk off of. looking for opions.

It might be cool to mix up the approx mixture in a clear glass jar and see how it reacts together. Will it seperate or blend together. Maybe shake it up and see what it does. Oh well something to do.

You are aware that the hydraulic system uses a separate reservoir, right? The oil in the rearend/transmission has nothing to do with the hydraulics on that tractor.

You might see some issues in very cold climate. Where are you located. I would run it anytime over 30 degrees . Below that maybe use the JD which you obviously own :)

That 10w-30 should be light enough for the TA, especially mixed with Hy-Tran in that ratio.

I'd run it. Check it once in a while to see what it looks like, though.

To each his own, but that"s not the type of thing I would post on a public forum. I"d just quietly change it to where it was right and be done with it and not tell anyone I made a mistake.

NOT GOOD FOR THE T/A . Could cost ya more then replacing the oil in the long run. Also could end up like tar when heated but don't know for sure . Had motor oil tar up because of two different oil brands being mixed together and what a fun time it was getting it out once cooled. Thank god for ROSE BUD tips on a torch .

I wouldn't worry about the TA with a 1/3 mix of 10W30 and 2/3s mix of Hytran. It was an issue when IH first told people to put straight 90W in the rear ends of SMTAs and 300s.

If this were a brand new $100,000 dollar machine, then I may answer differently, but on a 400 I would run it and forget it ever happened.

I may get flack, But I would run it. If it is 23 HyTran, And 1/3 engine oil. Unless some one knows of a seal issue, related to engine oil, the lubricity should be OK. JimN
