Farmall cub coil leaks

Yesterday my cub quit after mowing for a little over an hour.

It would not start and I checked basic wire connections and noticed the coil was bubbling oil at the end seam and was very hot.

After it cooled down, it started right-up.

I reckon it is time to replace?

It has a ceramic resistor in line with one of the wires.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for the help!

Leaky coil means a coil going bad. The oil in them do 2 things. #1 helps keep them cool and #2 insulation for the wires in it. Oil leaking means it shorts out as it get hot and when it shorts you then loose spark. Also when they start doing that I have seen them explode and bot what a mess when one does explode

buy a new 12V coil with built in resistor like Hal says. Same thing happened to me. Coil would get too hot to touch, tractor would stall, then start right up after cooling.

You can buy a 12 volt coil from Napa with a built-in ballast resistor for about $18.00. Hal
