I am going to replace my F504D hydraulic pump. Yep gonna do it, starting to whine a bit and makes just over 1100 psi WOT. It currently has the 12 GPM. I have a loader and a 17 GPM seems like a logical choice since they are a direct replacement for and CHEAPER than a 12 GPM.

What about the filter issue. My understanding is the standard filter (2) + screen is good for about 14 GPM when fresh. The 17 GPM supposedly needs different (longer) filters?

Does this require a different filter housing (sheet metal box that holds the 2 filters)?

Will I have to obtain the 17 GPM cover to deal with the extra long filters or have a machine shop whittle out a spacer to accomadate the length?

Will I have to adjust my power steering flow divider or replace with one for the bigger pump?

Any other complications adding 5 GPM to the system?

Thanks,

Charles

Hi Charles,
I verified with YTMAG support that Private Messaging is not functioning.
I'd like to ask you about the 'extra' inside valve you might have for sale. Please email me if you are still considering selling the valve.

My email is all the tall LETTERS and NUMBERS below.

Thank you, TX656. I did not think about all of the other related items, need to check my parts manual.

I went ahead and bought a 17 GPM from Marshall's Tractor in Kentucky. I have bought items from him before without a hitch.

Still I am in question about the filter situation... What is needed to install the high-flow filters for the 17 GPM pump?

Will the flow divider to the PS work or will it need to be upgraded to a higher flow unit?

Thanks guys.

Charles

Not really an answer but this may be helpful in your project. Remember to order a new suction tube, any o-rings, the gasket between the main pump and the piggy back, etc. around the same time you order your pump. Otherwise you'll be like me and what is really a very quick job will turn into week's while you wait for that last o-ring or gasket to get shipped to your dealer from Atlanta.
Best price I found on the main pump was the mail order place in Tennessee that others on this sight had indicated had good prices and service.
When I replaced the original Cessna 17gpm with a new pump I went from 900 psi to 1600 psi.
(I also opened up the piggy back pump and replaced the wear plate and o-rings. To do over again I wouldn't have opened up the piggy back because the little kit to put it back together was over $80 and it didn't appear to have near the wear that the main pump had but I guess there would have been no way to know that without opening it up.)
