My ser. no. plate is gone. How can I tell if it's a 460 or 606? It's an industrial with a 3000 IH loader & a 3120 IH backhoe. Thank You Lewiw

Looks like mine. Different hoe. Yours has the same cast iron front radiator cover/grill with the industrial logo. It has the 2606 style hand pump on the steering and not the 460 style gear. It has a different dash than mine but yours doesn't look like it is the original one.

Tell me if your engine is original yellow or does it have red underneath the yellow. I'm still wondering if mine has the original engine. I'm assuming yours is gas.

If yours is a gas and you have this picture taking and posting thing figured out, I'd like to see how the air cleaner hooks up. Mine doesn't have one and I got a truck air filter to mount and probably have to put in on top around the gas tank somewhere.

CN, I went through about all the tractor carried on caseih and casece and none matched the dash panel that were pictured in the parts catalog on the internet. Local parts guy went through a number of microfiche and didn't see it either.

BC, This tractor looks like it has the original wiring harness under the dash and it sure looks like it came that way. Fuel gauge at the top, water temp at the bottom, left idiot light is oil pres. & the right one is gen. Tach. was hooked up and the drive cable came through a hanger on the bell housing. Gas gauge works, voltage reg. is bad, gen looked good after a clean up. I installed new new bearings in the gov. The yoke that holds the fly weights was loose on the shaft, don't know how it ever worked like that. It has a foot control & hand lever, hand lever is broken so thats next on my list. I'll look again, but I don't think there is any red paint on the engine castings. I gave it a good bath with a pressure washer. I'm still trying to figure out the cut & past deal on photos. I can get them up on the tractor photo page. I'll lay all of the air cleaner parts out and take a photo of them. Hit my email & I'll send them direct to you. Thanks for your help! Lewie

I have a 2606 with an IH3000 loader and case 33s backhoe. Somehwere I posted some pictures on here cause I went through the same deal, was it a 460, 560, 656, 2656, or 2606. Do a forum search on 2606 and 3000 and some of my threads with the pics should show up in one of the threads. They use a lot of the same parts. After doing countless searches on the parts diagrams for those models at caseih.com, I finally decided it was a 2606. Problem was mine was a gas and I had to use 2656 to get any of the gas engine parts info. Same for the hydraulics. I had the 2606 IT manual and bought the 2656 manual (which the 2656 parts has more of the same hydraulics that I have with the 3000 loader, etc.). finally when I went to fix the brakes, the 2606 and 2656 brakes are totally different and that steered me to it being a 2606.

The 2606 and the 460 uses the same brakes, I think, but there are so many other differences that it will become obvious if you have an industrial such as the front grills. My front grill clearly hss 2 headlights with the word Industrial under them. Don't know how I missed it so long but then none of the parts diagrams seem to show that grill picture. To add to the confusion, I was having carb problems and mine had the 1 3/8" throat carb which was only showing for the 560 and the others had a 1 1/4" throat carb. The carb and alot of the other part numbers no longer cross ref in the caseih parts system so its a struggle. Since my engine is red and the rest of the tractor is yellow (another sign since the industrials were painted yellow), someone may have changed engines over time. Mine has enough blowby that if this went through 2 engines, then it has a lot of time on it.

My insturment panel never showed up in any parts diagrams. It has 4 guages evenly spaced across the top with the tach (now gone) down and to the left of the steering wheel with the throttle to the right of the steering wheel.

Also the 2606 uses a hydraulic hand pump for steering and will have 2 hydraulic lines going up under the steering wheel. The hand pump is about 6" long and 4" or so in diameter. The IH 460 used a gear shaft driven type system that comes down below the steering wheel. That should tell you pretty quick which one. They did make a 460 utility. Mine doesn't have a three point hitch. There are no 3 point rockshafts and the housing under the seat doesn't have the rockshaft valve assembly either. Where the pto would be is covered by a plate.

I found a 3000 loader op manual on ebay. Go to www.caseih.com or www.casece.com (for commercial) and no one can come up with a listing for the 3000. Not even the dealers or the company that bought out dresser who had bought out some of the caseih industrial stuff. The dealer didn't even had it on its old microfilm. The only reference I found to the 3000 was buried down in one of the hydraulic parts listings under 2656 and it listed a part or two that wer optional with the 3000 loader.

Get the I & T IH-25 manual since it has the 460 and the 2606 in it anyway.

Good luck and let me know what you decide. I'm still working through some hydraulic issues.

Thanks for your help! I'm pretty sure this is a 2606 now that I have had some help from the nice folks on here. I posted some photos on the tractor photos section. We are going to use it around the farm & My Son's property services business. His trucks are International and the old tractor will fit right in. Thanks Again. I can e-mail more pictures if needed Lewie

"My insturment panel never showed up in any parts diagrams. It has 4 guages evenly spaced across the top with the tach (now gone) down and to the left of the steering wheel with the throttle to the right of the steering wheel."

Should be in the parts book and operators manual. I cannot speak for the 2606, but the 460 panel is in both manuals and sounds identical to the 606/2606. Oil, amp, water, fuel across the top, tach lower left, throttle to right of steering wheel. 460 industrial is covered in the 460U parts book -- I do not know if there is a separate operator's manual. My 460U manual does not mention the industrial.

My post above may be correct, but I agree that www.caseih.com only shows the diesel instrument panel for the GAS version. The site is pretty good in most cases, but sometimes scrambled.

This is a 2606, since yours is an industrial, that is likely what it is. Note the taper of the white strip as noted below. Also on the 606/2606 the International emblem is silver on black, on the 460 it is black on silver.

Those side panels are gone. The air cleaner is mounted so that the stack comes up along the hood. Large round head lights in the grille. I posted a photo in the tractor photo section. I'm going to post a few more. Thanks to everyone for their help. Lewie

Like stated above, the 606 has hydrostatic steering.
Visual clues are either radius'd white stripes on the side = 460U, or arrow shaped (pointed) white stripes = 606.

If it's missing sheet metal, your only choice is by correlating misc. casting numbers.

I have not seen a 606, my understanding is that it is about the same as a 460U, except that it has hydrostatic power steering and a 3 point hitch. However my 460U parts book indicates that the 460 industrial could also have a 3 point hitch. So probably the steering is the clue. Hydrostatic means that the steering wheel is not physically connected to the front wheels. Your front axle should have hydraulic cylinders on it. Others can probably give a better answer.

It has hydro. steering. Also has a 3 point under the backhoe mounts that has never been used. I'll try to upload photos
