I'm a newb to tractors and enjoy learning from others in the know. My M is a working tractor that runs nice, but will do better with a tune up.

This M has a Roto-Gage (IIRC this time of AM) conversion on a 47 engine with a different number than is on the chassis.

How popular were these conversions and did replacement engines have different compression ratios than the gassers? From the backside, the alternator appears to be a mid 60s Delco Remy 12v.

Do the lpg engines have any quirks that one needs to know?

Great forum, time for lights out tho. :)

Conversions usually consisted of a tank and LPG "carburetor". An LP head from a Super M could be installed to up compression. Your engine is likely original as the chassis and engine serials are not supposed to match.

Bob, All Ms on LPG were Farm or LPG Dealer conversions. LP engines run cleaner and with less wear than their Gas counterparts. Short of Plugs, points, rotor, cap, wire, a tune up on your M will be identical to a Gas M. Since your ol girl runs well there is No Need to mess with the vaporizer or carb. If you have questions hollar at me and I will talk you through whatever you need. My # 512-577-3837. Call anytime.
Later,
John A.
