Positive or Negative ground.

I imagine this had been asked many times over. I have a 1949 C that I think should be a positive ground, but is reversed. Its still a 6 volt system and I don't intend to change anytime soon. My concern is the voltage regulator may not be functioning correctly as the battery goes down over time even with use. It could be that I have a bad regulator, but before I replace it I thought I'd get the battery cables correct.

Whats the thought?

I've done some "rewiring" on this tractor but I have NOT taken the regulator off and flipped it to see if it's marked. (It's old and rusty so I'm guessing it might be done for) I do know that the brushes in the generator still have some life left.

I have already returned it to positive ground. Have to see what happens next.

Thanks guys.

Well then, make sure you properly polarize your generator. mike

You should check your regulator as some are made for positive ground and some for negetive ground. It should say on the bottom of the regulator. You mite have fried the reg if hooked to the wrong ground but your system when new was positive ground 6v.

If your C is wired correctly for negative ground, your battery should not be draining down. Make sure it is wired correctly and all wiring and connectors are in good condition. If you want to convert it back to positive ground like it was when it was new, be sure that all the electrical system wiring is correctly wired. We have a SMTA that drained batteries once and found that there was water in the regulator, that can happen also.

Good luck.

Andy.
