I put a new gasket today on my M and could not get fuel to come out, air locked i presume sooo i blew on the gas line and i got good flow again. Will the flow stop again? im just not sure this is suposed to happen like that no fuel coming out of the bowl, until it is primed??

..for the hundreds of times I have had a fuel boel off of many tractors, you never tighten it down until you open up teh valve and let the bowl fill while air is escaping throught the top , then start tightening..your bowl will be full, no air lock ready to go, wipe off the spillage and ready to fire up...always let the bowl fill first then tighten

I guess the answer to this puzzle is the question Was the Carb full of gas and did you start the engine and run the carb dry before you experienced no fuel flow or was the carb full off gas and you did not start the engine.....Gale

Yes, that is normal. Anytime you have that glass bowl off, and install it again, it will be air locked because if the carburetor bowl is full of gas, there is no place for that air to escape. IF the carb had been empty, then the air would simply have been pushed into the carb and the fuel would have followed. As it is, you have nothing to worry about. It won't happen again until you mess with it again.

If you put a new Gasket in the fuel filter and did not get gas when you opened the filter shut-off valve and then blew back through the gas line into the tank then you must have some dirt in the gas tank that you dislodged when you blew back through the line. If that is the case then it will probably find it's way back and cause blockage again..... ...Gale

Not necessarily. What Rustyfarmall says is exactly right. Once you remove the glass bowl and reinstall, it will air-lock. Open the fuel valve, fire it up, and it will self correct and all will be fine - in 99% of the cases. mike

It probably just decided to be cantankerous. It will probably work fine. Sometimes the float will get a bit wedged and stay shut. Don't loose sleep, and keep the fuel shut off when not running the tractor. JimN

Sounds like the float valve may have been shut from fuel in the carb or stuck from varnish. If the former, starting the engine would allow the fuel to begin flowing as soon as the level in the carb allowed the float valve to open. If it is varnish, you will need to clean the carb or perhaps replace the float valve needle and seat before the carb will work correctly.
