Has anybody completely removed the seat assembly from an H or M and replaced it with something a bit more modern and comfy. I like Farmalls, and yes, authentic is nice but my tail bone is tired of bouncing around on a metal pan seat.

I bought an M that had a moulded cushioned seat with a short backrest on it and didn"t like it one bit. That backrest rarely got leaned against and when I did I felt like I would fall off backwards and it would rub the same place on my back when bushhogging in heavy brush and low limbs. I just got a metal pan for the M from a junk yard and in summer I like it better than the padded pan seat I got for my H. The padded seat makes me feel like sliding off the front going down steep hills, but is nice in the winter and it does look great and ride very nice on flat ground!!! The metal pan is the WORST in winter unless you like COLD butt , but it also is cool in summer and sticks, rain and crap just brush right off. The cover might be the way to go and a new shock helped the H a bunch! Took a lot of the bounce out.

I may get flamed for this but I ran box seat from 630 John Deere on M for years it suited me a lot better than pan seat and I felt safer. My M and SM have IH shock type seats now though.

You can do as Allen did, (I know where he got that seat) or you can replace that steel pan with a brand new cushioned version which is over $100, or you can slip a cushioned seat cover on that steel pan for about $30 plus shipping. Of course, if you really want to go the cushy route, you can spend well over $1,000 and install a super deluxe air ride version complete with electric air compressor.

Thanks, that's about what I had in mind, although if I go that route I've got some repairing to do first. Probably can find a dead H with a seat undercarriage better than I've got on this one H. It kind of looks like there should be a story to go with it.
