Carb. dripping

When I shut down my "M" I noticed it drips from the "drip hole filler" at the bottom of the carb. Not sure if this just started or if it has been going on for some time. No problem when the engine is running. Time for a carb. rebuild?

Thanks

I shut off the gas at the sediment bowl and let the engine stop from lack of fuel before turning off the key.

Sounds plumb normal to me.

That's why the weep hole is there in the first place.

"Red Mist" it starts right up. I will happily skip the rebuild.

Thanks

Not necessarily. Sometimes they just drip a little when you first shut them off. Nature of the beast.

Does it start right back up, or is it flooded? If it starts right back up fine, then shut off your fuel at the sediment bowl when you shut if off. This is a good safety practice anyway.

If it floods, then a rebuild is in order, with special emphesis on a new needle and seat - and proper float level adjustments. Good luck. mike

Where might one find replacement filler material for the drip hole? What is the stuff like?

Pete: It is a lot like Scotch-brite abrasive material. You can buy sheets of it at the auto parts store - green or dark red. The trick is to keep from mangling the little retainer in the bottom of the carb bowl....
