I bought a new head gasket for my F-14 from Rice Equipment, now I think the pistons are hitting the head. It wasn"t doing it before. Does anyone make thicker gaskets?

Tony, The pistons are flat top and do not move higher than the sleeves but if a piece of the gasket is pushed into the sleeve it may hit. this would meen you have the rong gasket or its not in right. Thickness is not the problem.
You don,t have extra long plug or anything else wrong like bolts? oldiron29

Did you have the head shaved? theres no reason why the gasket would cause that probelm, unless you had it on wrong, and I dont see that either. got mine from Rice and nary a problem.

Thanks, guys. I'll pull the head back off and see if maybe it is the gasket that the pistons are hitting. I've also wondered if maybe the wrist pins are loose, but the noise started after I replaced the head gasket.

Just in case anybody"s curious, I figured it out. The pistons have a stepped top. They were in backwards, so the high side was under the low flat part of the head. Feel kind of foolish now.
