My brother's interested in a '73 1066 his neighbor/friend has for sale. Being neighbors/friends makes it a little touchy arriving at a price. Note the following:

-approx. 1000 hours on re-man engine
-5500 hours on tractor
-two PTO shafts
-two remotes
-rebuilt hyd. motor in steering
-TA is soft/going out
-rear tires and 9 bolt axle duals (all four) approx. 60% rubber
-no rear fluid, one rear wheel weight/side
-no front weights
-straight sheetmetal, rather faded paint
-tight steering, new spindles, new tie rod ends
-new front tires
-new seat
-good brakes and new steering wheel
-6 headlights-- two in grill, two in each fender
-good grill
-mostly new, all working guages
-no cab
-field ready

What would be a resonable price to offer on this tractor? I understand it's generally considered the seller's obligation to set the price, but buying from a friend is a little different, however both sides realize buisness is buisness.

We would appreciate your price suggestions.

About 15 years ago, my grandad and I bought two clean ones at an auction for 6K a piece. Would love to find some like that now, for that price.

Sounds like about 7000 to me. That would be fair to both. TA being out should cheapen it up, but engine and stearing pump rebuilt adds some value. Quite a few of those 66"s had a steering pump problem around that hr mark. Worst part is, if it acted like ours did, you wouldn"t notice a problem by driving the tractor on the road or in a dealers lot, as soon as you bought it took her out in loose soil you would though.

Glenn,

IaGary and I bought this pair of 10s from a dealer that I've been dealing with since forever.

Can't remember for sure, but seems to me that we gave maybe $7K-$7500 apiece for 'em?

What you describe is very simaliar to the one I bought from a Nebraska IH dealer last year.

6000 hours 600? on rebuild.
Tires, paint, dauls and all about the same.

Mine did have a cab that I gave to Allan.

It was a $7500 tractor sitting in Allan's driveway.

Naturally it cost me to get it here. I would have given $8000 close to home and if I knew the seller that would have made a difference as well.

Gary
