Super MTA Diesel Fuel Questions

My SMTA diesel hunts on the governor when mid throttle or idle. Could my problem be staving for fuel due to dirty fuel filters. I was told that can be the issue. I took everything apart and cleaned the water trap which was dirty and the Auxillary filter was dirty but the final filter was good. Is the auxillary the first filter in line? And can I pull start the tractor when repacing the filters so I don't have to make a fuel mess with bleeding. Just had it repainted and don't want fuel all over it.

you have to run it on gas to bleed it . just us a wrag around the bleeders and it dont make much mess.

If you opened the system anywhere, you have to bleed it again. It will not run on diesel with air in the system. A little bit of diesel fuel shouldn't hurt a good paint job.

I can't answer all your questions we had a SMTAD when I was a little pup in my early teens we used to pull that thing around the country side to start it in the winter but that was on the gas side but now that I look back and got a little smarter I think our problem was the points on the gas side because you had to keep the ignition button pulled out to charge the battery. Anyway back to your other question I don't think you can get the air out without open drains and cracking lines because air bubbles will compress and and make it difficult to lift the nozzle seats to allow the air to escape. Can you start it on gas and then switch back and forth to diesel and back to see if it will pickup I'd run it awhile on gas to heat up the cylinders before I'd try to make the switches. There has to be some old McCormick diesel mechanics on here that can help because that system is older than dirt.IMHO CT
