I am going to check out a Farmall MV that I want to buy. What are some things I should look for when checking this tractor out. The sereil tag says its an MV but is there numbers stamped into the frame or engine that are specific. I know the front castings are not broke or welded.
I don't know much about an MV, any info helps.
Thanks.

The engine on a MV will have a V stamped on the engine block in the prefix letters by the serial number. Paul.

You are correct, forgot about that. Actually it will say FBKVM.

If it has a wide front and dropped rear axles it is an MV. If it has a single front and dropped axles it is a cotton harvester tractor, the serial tag should rule that out. The engine is the same as the M or W6, so it won't have different markings. I haven't ever seen one up close. Just drive it and listen for strange noises from the transmission and final drives. Every thing else is no different from any other 60+ year old tractor.

A cotton harvester will have MCH stamped before the serial number.

Unless it was a field conversion. Single front is a dead giveaway, but I suppose it could be adapted to the MV, I don't know that much about them.
