If you don't need the shutters, I would be interested in purchasing them if they are in good shape.

You don't have to remove the shaft to be able to remove the head.

First of all, please don't throw away the shutters. There are restorers who could probably use them, and those kinds of things are hard to come by these days.

As far as the shaft removal, unscrew the cap on the front of the top bolster and drain the oil. At the u-joint just behind the instruments undo and remove the bolt that is holding the turning key in place. Then all you have to do is unscrew the shaft to disengage the worm gear at the front. Then you can slip the shaft all the way out.

Don't forgot to take out the woodruff key before you try to pass the shaft throught the center support. It won't fit through.

Do you really need to remove the steering shaft to pull the head on an H? I pulled heads on my M and 450 Diesel without touching the shaft. In fact in helped me with the diesel. That head is so heavy that the only way I could lift it was to lay my chest over the steering shaft, pull straight up, and set the head on the studs.

Of course when you pull the steering shaft, that would be a good time to check the condition of the bearing and pull the cover on the gearbox and check the tightness of the castellated nut.

Take the shaft loose from the U-joint at the back, take that front "plug" out of the steering box and you can then screw that steering shaft right out the front.
