I split the Super M out in the barn about an hour ago. I am going to replace the clutch, pressure plate, etc. Does anyone know how thick is a NEW clutch disc for a Super M? I measured what I have left and it is about 3/8" or slightly less thickness thickness is just over the rivets). It had more than I thought it did left. It has needed a clutch for some time now. I have not ordered the new clutch yet. What all should be replaced during the replacement? Thanks.

Thanks. I may not be understanding what I am looking at but, it doesn't have a belly pump on it. It has a clutch view opening, which has an opening that is 9 1/2". The clutch disc is 12" in diameter and won't begin to fit through the opening. The rest is all cast housing and it is encapsulated unless split--from what I can tell, unless I am not seeing or understanding what you mean.

The shaft slides about 1" and that's it. Could it be that it can be done on some of the Super M's, but not all. This one has a TA. Not sure if that makes any difference on it.

The clutch disc I took out is black, smooth and shiny. I do not see cracks in it, but would say it is glazed and hardened looking. I had attempted to adjust the pedal and linkage per the manual, but could not get any more out of it. It had been slipping for a long time-so much that it would barely move in first gear after I would run it for a while.

There is no possible way this disc could ever be changed out without splitting the tractor. The disc is quite a bit larger than the clutch view opening. I had read on this board that possibly the clutch could be changed through the opening. This must work on the older Ms only-although I still don't understand how that can be done with the shaft running through the disc.

I will have the flywheel turned and will take a copy of this with the specs. I need to order a clutch kit. Anyone have any suggestions on where I can get a good quality kit? Thanks.

The clutch disk can be changed on a Super M, but not the pressure plate.

You need to pull out the belly pump first. Then the whole bottom of the tractor is wide open with plenty of space.

Once you get the belly pump out of the way, you will find that the input shaft has a coupler in it. Remove the coupler, and unbolt the pressure plate. You can then wiggle the shaft out.

It's all pretty tricky, but it is possible. It's a lot easier on a plain M, and you can get the pressure plate out to replace it as well.

New pilot bearing, or accurate measurement of the existing bearing to assure it is OK.
New plate, new TO bearing.
Resurface flywheel friction surface, and take the same amount off of the rim where the clutch PP mounts to the FW. this keeps the geometry correct.
Take out three of the PP mounting bolts equaly around (120 degrees apart)use the three to screw into the rear of the PP where there are three holes of correct thread. These bolts release the PP clamping force from the FW. this allows the pp to be released while putting the engine in. after assembly the bolts are re installed in the FW, after putting in the shaft. Now when ya reface the flywheel there is a specific hight that the step needs to be cut to . as a lot of places do not know this and this is why alot of clutches slip. the correct step hight should be 1.406 . write that sown so ya don't forgot .

That sounds like new to me, I bought a brand new one last week and could not believe it was not any thicker. I am going to say 1/4" or less for the new Rockford I just got. So if you have just under a 1/4" or so you may be OK unless its cracked or smooth from hardening.

Thanks for all of the information. I pulled the flywheel off last night and will drop it off to be turned today. I'll then get the clutch kit ordered.
