I am currently restoring a very rusty Super A. As result of all the rust I am destroying many of the bolts as I am removing them. Does anyone know of a good source where I can get replacements? TKS Russ

Wonder if I should be taking more things off of those ole 2ME mounted corn pickers that I am scrapping. I took off some grease zerks, set screws and some other small, easy to remove parts.

If I need new dot bold I just take and put them in the lathe and turn a little of the head till I got a dot. You should be able to buy all the bolts you need almost anywere and bring them to a machinist and he will be able to turn them for you

I have'nt tried this yet, but I think it would work and be easier than the lathe route. I'd just get a piece of brass rod, cut it into dots, and then solder in on the bolt. The lower temp. should'nt hurt a hardened bolt.

I have found that Caterpillar bolts are not all that expensive. I buy everything I can at Cat.

Your local Case-IH dealer will have bolts that are the correct size and thread count, but those new bolts will not have the dot head. I think maybe OEM tractor parts might be reproducing the dot head bolts. Otherwise, you'll have to find used bolts.

Rusty,

OEM did reproduce the dot head bolts for a while but they no longer do it. They did have some some square dot head a little over a year ago for mounting the front rim.

My old trick is just to file the head off a bolt smooth and then use a tooth pick and some J B Weld and make your own dot.

O.K., I stand corrected. Personally, I am not concerned with originality when it comes to the hardware that holds my tractor together. I would much rather use a shiny new "non-correct" bolt than a rusty old "correct" bolt.

I agree. I feel safer going down the road in road gear with shiny new grade 8 bolts holding the wheels on!
