Just rebuilt the engine in a 544 for one of my customers, His also did this, after I finished the egine is still did it, did a little research and there is supposed to be a buffer spring on the throttle rod from the carb to the gov, Ih did not have it so I picked up a generic from the hardware store and adjusted its tension just until the lope vanished, This tractor does not lope anymore EVER. starts and Idles warm or cold just perfectly. Thats what fixed this one. sorry I have no pics, tractor already delivered.

I bought a 544 row crop gas and the previous owner had just installed a new carburetor. He is a tractor mechanic by trade and just gave up on the old carb. Runs very well now. Needs a couple minutes to warm up. Pulls good and is fairly fuel efficient compared to most gas tractors. Sometimes a new carb can make a new tractor out of it.

I wonder if it is a characteristic of these 544, I have a utility , we use for raking, it stumbles until you play with it a while, I have to get the oil pressure up and then goose the gas all the way and it clears it up,, no where near 20 minutes,, probably 30 seconds,, after the intitial start and games it runs great,

sorry I couldnt help with teh question, I never tried to remedy it,

Sounds like a 544. Ours is like that as well. I finally put D21 (hotter) plugs in it so they would stop fouling. Been through the carburetor twice, three different manifold gaskets, two of those solenoid shut off valves, adjusted governor, etc.

That C200 just isn't a friend of mine. Given a choice, we all run for the H when it comes time to mow hay...

but the loping goes away in a few min ? if so sounds like you just need to leave the choke partially on for a little while.

The loping lasts for quiteA WHILE EST 20 MINUTES, SMOKES BLACK AND FOULS PLUGS WHEN CHOKE IS PULLED
