Does anyone know how much weight an IH 140 will lift? I have a 3 point kit (Worksaver HK-96)on the back and I am try to lift a double tool bar w/ 5 Planet Jr. seeders on it. It seems that the tractor is having trouble lifting it. Any info. or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jeff

No one mentioned it, but there is a helper spring system that is part of the one point fast hitch for the 140. If you have the rockshaft arm on the left that is made for the helper spring you could likely add the helper spring system. YOu have to have the rockshaft with the extra bracket to attach the helper spring. The spring is set up so it compresses when the lift goes down (Of course reducing down pressure on the lift). When you lift, then the stored energy adds to the lifting capacity. I don't know how much this system adds to the lift capacity, but I would estimate maybe 200 lbs or so. My owners manual lists several example equipment items with weights for the fast hitch. The heaviest item is 610 lbs. I used to have a work saver 3 pt with no helper spring. The limit was around 500 lbs for that. I now have a fast hitch with the helper spring. It will lift more, but I don't know how much.

Haas: The spring makes very little difference on any individual lift. I do think the long term effect of operating without the spring is harder on the hydraulic system.

I had a fast hitch on my SA for years without the spring. It lifted all my fast hitch implements including my 60 gallon sprayer as well as my 130 with the spring. I did try to avoid heavy lifts without the spring. My 130 has never been apart and it still has an edge on 140 when it comes to a lift. They both lift my MF-25, 24 blade disk with 18" blades, 1-1/4" arbor bolts and matching spacers. As I said, 130 has the edge, however they are each close to their lift limit on that disk with 3 point. My 3 point is my own design and manufacture and will enable these tractors to lift more than with fast hitch. My guess is that disk is close to 1,000#.

He's trying to lift a tandem tool bar planter with offset planters on the rear tool bar behind the front tool bar. I don't know how many planters he has on there, but suspect there is too much weight is too far back from hitch point. I see those vegetable planters working around here and even a unit no wider than tractor requires 50 hp just to handle the weight.

I can lift 600 lbs easily with my 140's. I have a 600 lb sickle mower and a 600 lb disc harrow and both lift with no problem. I have a winch on a 3 pt boom pole and I can lift the front tires off the ground if I hook the cable to a stump.

I feel adding a high pressure hydraulic pump or adapting a large cylinder would be a big mistake for a couple of reasons. First of all the rear rockshaft is mounted to the pressed steel fenders. They will only stand so much weight before they buckle. I have no doubt that one could make the hydraulic system strong enough to lift the load, but will the rockshaft mounts hold? Finally given the relatively light front end weight on a 140 some weights will probably be in order.

harvesterguy: I quite regularly pick up 1,000# with my 130 and 140. I do have some concerns about those fenders, and can tell you I'm damn careful when moving with that kind of weight on behind. I do use front end weight.

I also build 3 point hitch kits for these tractors, and am currently designing a rear rockshaft mounted on final drives and raised by a remote cylinder. Problem is, I'll never sell one of them, no one will pay the money. At last count, I'm over $2,500. just for the 3 point hitch and rockshaft. If one uses enough front end weight to utilize this hitch, where is the next weak point, "torque tube or final drives"?

Jeff: With a Worksaver, 500# if the weight is within 2' of the hitch pins. Between 2' and 4' you'll be lucky if it lifts 300#. More than 5', 50#.

Do you know of any other 3 point options for a 140 that will lift more? Or a way to get more lift from the worksaver?

Thanks for the help, Jeff

Add a PTO pump and an external cylinder to your 3 point lift. You will have to add a valve too, but that would be one way to add some lifting power to your 140.

I am not familiar with PTO pumps or cylinders. Could you provide any specifics or resources. I looked them up on line and found some info. at Dalton Hydraulics Link It looks like an expensive solution, maybe over $700 by the time I'm done. It also looks like it might get a little bulky. Thanks again.
