On my H, the battery goes dead if it sits for a few days. Just put a new 6 v. battery in. Generator checked out good at that time. I know it must have a short somewhere, question is where is the best place to start looking for it? Are there any common places to check first? There is nothing obvious, no bare wires, etc. Battery cables are large, older type cables. It is a 49H, 6 v pos. ground, distributor. Thanks!

Maybe a BAD new BATT? Disconnect batt in dark to see spark indicating short. Stick cable to batt 4 or 5 times at night. Does batt stay up if you disconnect?

Could be the regulator draining the battery. Hal

There are only so many places for a voltage leak on a H. Here is what I would do. Take a Batt cable off and connect one lead of a volt meter to the batt post and the other to the cable. Check the meter for a voltage reading. If no reading there is no voltage leak in the system. If there is a reading, start removing things from the electrical system. Start with the ign switch, then lights, regulator....
Soon as you remove something and the volt meter drops you found your leak.

Easiest way to "fix" is to put a battery switch on your Positive ground cable at the battery.... or you could disconnect that cable when not in use..otherwise it's check out time for shorts with you meter ! Good luck ! Jim
