The flywheel turns, the crank does not. How bad is it?

The flywheel will not come out the bottom, but all the clutch parts will. If these are out, the attachment of the FW can be checked. If it is still connected, the crank is broken. Pulling the pan willtell the story. Then splitting is in order. JimN

Is it actually the flywheel turning or just the ring gear?

Have seen those gears just spin on the flywheel.

Thanks, gents - I guess. I had hoped it was the ring gear, but I turned the flywheel. The shop manual I have indicates different procedures for different series tractors. How do I tell? This is a 1940 model. Looks like I'm going to learn how to split one - not looking forward to it.

unless all 4 bolts are out of the flywheel, you got serious problems.
