19 new O-rings later and after torqueing the head on , I finally got the control valves installed.
There's only one o-ring on each valve. Here's a picture of the old O-ring compared to the new one behind. That's what 59 years of use will do!

The O-ring only has to be rolled over one hole, that for the pin that holds the control yoke. By the long arrow...

...and I got a GREAT tip from Riverbend, and chamfered the hole with a rat-tail file, because it had really sharp edges. That way, the O-ring incurs no cuts or scratches being rolled to it's groove. I hugely recommend that step to anyone going to dip into theirs.

Went from this...

to THIS, after I re-wired the old-but-still-intact leather boots.

Sloooow going, but hopefully thorough.

FUnny this came up, Peter...

TractorSam and I just finished ripping the TouchControl block from my SuperC apart this evening....got the last valve out of it. O-ring looked better than yours did, but poking at it proved that it had turned from rubber to something much much harder in 54 years!
Nice to see you're progressing!

Nice job on the rebuild. I recently rebuilt both remote valves on my F504D and found some similar, funky O-rings. Age and heat will transform them into something that will not hold oil. :o
