I am getting ready to paint the Farmall C that I have been restoring. Most guys around wher I live simply use rustoleum aluminum paint fot eht rims. My dad says that the original rim color for the farmalls were somewhat of a grey color. Can anyone tell me the official color and the paint code. Thanks

Go to your local Lowes or Home Depot and get the rustoloem hammered aluminum. Looks real close to galvanized.

All a matter of opinion, aluminum is bright, looks ok but is not original. New galvanized is "moderately" bright, but gets duller with age. Go to a farm store and look at galvanized chain link fence, or a galvanized bucket, that will be pretty close to the way they looked when new. I use PPG paint, I can't find the number. It is a Chevy rally wheel color, sort of a silver gray. Not too bright, not too dull.

I restored a few Vettes, and Camaros. That Chevy wheel color is "Argent Silver". Now by coincidence the "Argent Silver" sold at the IH dealers is a dead on copy. I'd go with the Argent Silver from IH and add the hardener. It's a modified acrylic and holds up well, and is easy to reduce and spray. Paint the rims in a horizontal position, inside first, to keep the metallic particles even all the way around.

I picked that color from paint chips from a book at my PPG dealer using the WAG method. Selected two. If I remember right, like most paints with the same or similar colors they changed slightly from year to year, and there were several. I do not like paint chips, as I can't tell the exact color until I have it mixed and spray it. The two I picked were somewhat different, I put one on my C and the other on my Super H and 460. -- now they don't look much different. As I say, it was a WAG, but seemed to work.

IH did not paint the wheels on these tractors at all, they were galvanized metal,so there was no paint color.the aluminum paint would be quite close. That what I use on my tractors.
