Farmal 350 - electrical questions

So, this beast won't start. It did when I bought it 4 years ago. 2 kids later, I am getting back to it :) So it was sitting for 4 years.

I put a new 6V battery in it (from AutoZone) - it's a 1-6V. It used to have a 1-8V. The starter clicks sometimes when I push the start button - sometimes not. Maybe the battery doesn't have enough cranking amps?

I noticed that there is a wire hanging - it's from the "L" terminal on the regulator. I looked in the manual, and it shows a loop on the other end in the schematic. Anyone know where this should be attached to?

Also, it doesn't have a key ignition - just a hole there.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Clean all the connections and use new battery cables, they corrode under the insulation. You need them anyway, then take it from there.

I assume the battery was a new one.....am wondering if the starter drive is locked up agains the flywheel on a tooth...put in 5th gear and try to rock tractor rear wheel to dislodge the starter drive from the flywheel, OR, loosen all the bolts in the starter and the drive should let go. L post on regulator should feed the light circuit, actually stands for load or lights. And, so how do you turn the ignition system on if there is no key switch? and, or, do you twist the wires together? hope this helps...ttyl, ka

Yeah - the battery is new.

I will try to rock the back tire - not sure if I'll be able to - the front tires went flat and it's kinda stuck where it is. May have to loosen the starter bolts.

It doesn't have lights. Any suggestions on what to do with the 'L' wire?

I am guessing that the wires that would go to the key ignition are spliced together, because it did start with the push button 4 years ago.

Thanks again.
