My dad died last year and my mother is now wants to sell two Farmall tractors (one is Super A). Where do I locate model or serial numbers? I haven't been able to locate anything. Then how do I determine their worth? Any suggestions or assistance would be very much appreciated.

Farmall A's here sell for 600 to 1000 dollars in the condition yours look in the pictures. If they smoke or have funny noises they will be less. That is just in my area of Idaho. Ron

I missed the "page 2" posts before I posted my reply. Ignore it.

Value will depend mostly on condition and somewhat on location.

FAA100447 is a Farmall A built in 1944.

They appear to be Farmall A's. Can not see hyd. systems on either. The serial tag should be on the seat suports under the seats. Jim

D,

Here are the pictures you posted. The first one is certainly a Super A. An expert on that tractor will help you identify it. If you look on the right of the forum you towards the bottom you will see a "Research & Info" section. 10 selections down is "Serial numbers". Once you locate the serial number tag you can take the number down and compare it to that list to identify the year. Verify it here with us.

Your second pic is also an A or SA. I'm no expert in the difference, so these guys can help you. But you can help yourself by identifying where the tag is and copying down the number.

The model & serial number info should be stamped on the serial number tag. Could you post some pictures of the tractors?

D Clauson: I've looked at your photos, don't believe either tractor is a Super A. Better closeup shots around mid chassis would help. I don't see touch control hydraulics, and for that reason I'm calling them both Farmall A.

Thanks for all replies to my request for help! Hopefully, my mother can now find the serial numbers and then I can do more research. When I visit her next month, I will take close up photos of the chasis, etc.

Yup, you can't believe the stickers on the hoods all the time.

People often use the Super stickers because, "I think my tractor is SUPER!" I've seen many an H with Super H stickers, for example.

If one of the YTers lives close to you, maybe they can help you out in identifying and pricing.
No chance you would want to keep one of the family tractors in the family?

You can go to "Tractor Photos" over on the left side of this page in the "Galleries" section. That will help you identify your second tractor. I believe that the serial number tag is on the left seat support for the Super A. If that is missing you can look on the engine block, just below #1 spark plug (the front one), there is a small flat machined area. The engine serial number will be stamped here. Then you can go to the "Serial Numbers" to the left and look up the year.

My mother has located numbers on one of the tractors (NOT the one with the Super A decal). It says: Model A FAA100447. I have searched the SNs under Research & Info and can't find anything with those numbers.

The tractor with the Super A decal has a coat of paint covering the numbers so will be a day or so before that gets removed.

The serial numbers listed show the FIRST number for a particular year, not the only number for that year. Each tractor has a unique serial number.

If the number is higher than the number of one year, and lower than the next, then the tractor was made in that year.

FAA100447, for example falls between the first number for 1944 (93690) and the first number for 1945 (113218). Thus, it is a 1944 model.

Thanks. I never would have figured that out. How do I now determine what the tractor is worth?

Randy: Super A engine serial numbers are not the same as tractor serial numbers after 1951, but it can be used as a guide. They started off close in 1947 stayed about the same until 51 using block number 251069 R1. In 1951 they changed to block part number 354898 R1 and very quickly a 1,000 spread developed (Engines have higher numbers) By 1954 that spread was close to 2,000.

I've asked several times where the extra engines went. The book writing experts don't answer that one. I've checked about 2 dozen tractors, all with original engines. I think the answer is baler engines.
