Can anyone tell me where to check the fluid level for the transmission on a 504?

Any help would be appreciated.

Ken

Fill level plug on left side of xmission, bout inline with the shifter, by the clutch, under the floorboard. Thanks Hugh, I did not know it was there.

If it does not have power steering, there is a 1/2 in. pipe plug on the left side of the transmission below the clutch pedal and forward of the LH brake. If it has power steering, the P/S and oil cooler return to an elbow which screws into the same opening. This is a special elbow which also has a 1/8 in. pipe plug in it for checking the hyd oil level. Hope this helps.

Hugh MacKay said: (quoted from post at 04:42:04 04/24/08) Ken: Most Farmalls of that era have the plug forward of brakes, on clutch pedal side, about 1/3 distance from bottom on transmission case. It should be a 1/2" plug, maybe a bit larger.

Most of my experience has been 300 and 560. I had a 504 and 656, came with a farm I bought. I know the 656 had a dipstick, think the 504 did as well, but I didn't keep it so I'm not certain. That 504 and 656 were 1967 models, and that would be last year of 504. I know most early 504 used the fill to level plug.

I'll have to check my manual but I am certian that there is no dipstick, at least my 1962 F504D does not. I did not know of a level plug either. I have been told to fill until the oil reaches the top of the IPTO clutches (in the fill hole).

Charles: You read what I said. I did not say all 504s had a dipstick. I'm not even sure the last ones did, but the may have.

If your checking the oil in you transmission as you suggest, it may go dry. You best get a manual
