There is a part on the top of the 3 point hitch/rear differential that is a canister about 12" long and 4-5" in diameter. It is located under the cab accessible by removing the back cab cover. It lays horizontally and is connected with a single large diameter hard line to the topmost section of the rear end to what looks like a control valve of sorts. Anyway, it has been leaking and rewelded at least 5 times in the past 6 years. The dealer calls it a hydraulic accumulator and new they are almost $600. Do I need this part? Can I just cap the fitting off and remove it from the tractor? I don"t want to hurt anything but I"m plowing and it"s out in the field.

Thanks.

Hello Joel.
I think they call it the attenuator cylinder. I have welded a few and they are holding. the biggest thing is getting the oil out of the crack and keeping it out when your welding it takes alot of heating with a torch. if yours has been welded 5 times you might have trouble getting it to hold. as far as taking it out and plugging the line. I would say a 3588 hydralic pump is worth more than the $600 bucks. I would think with out it you would get spikes in the hyd system, the pressure spikes could damage the pump and at $50 for 5 gal of hyd oil. you better just buckup to the CaseIH counter and get the part.
Good luck Ed

Cut the top off of the cylinder and look inside!
if it is just a surge chamber, a good metal fab shop can make one (possible thicker walls) and use the original manifold. Just a thought. JimN
