there is a farmall 504 gas, wf, with cab, schwartz loader, NO 3point/fh/rockshaft for sale locally (central mn)
$4800 obo
27xx hours on tach. fair rubber 75% 13.6 38, chains. rusty rims

how is the price? Our needs really require the 3 pt or fh for snowblower, blade, or bale spear. so likely will pass on it, unless could offer 4 and get rockshaft, pump, plumbiing etc for less than 1000.

are those live pto? there is a lever on the left of the seat with a push button that looks to control it. does not look like the pto on the 656.

if i decide to pass for sure i will post the phone number here.

I wouldn't buy a 504, we had them at work for mowing firing ranges and they're engines didn't last long and were not sleeved so the government sent them to auction. Hal

Unless the tractor is absolutely cherry, the seller is completely out of his mind... at least $1000-$1500 high.

definitely not cherry. the engine looks worse than 27xx hours (dirty), the carb is not IH red anymore--it's a zenith aluminum. there is a set of 3 leaky SW cheap gauges mounted in the way of the shifter, so we know the original gauges might be kaput (including tach). the IH instruments do look like new, but i bet the cab protecting from the sun has more to do with that than anything. other parts of it do look pretty nice, but everything that raises suspicion definitely lowers the value.

amazing what you can find out in only 30 seconds looking right at a tractor. i was tempted to see if the cab door was unlocked and how it started cold and ran, but i have some manners that wouldnt let me.

I've seen that tractor parked in the same place a lot before it was by the road with a sign on it. I think it was only used for snow removal by the seller.

i should wait for the right one to come along. even if it's industrial or non IH, if it runs good, has 3pt/fh, pto, and a loader and is big enough to lift a round bale on both ends that would be perfect. as much as i would love a project like adding 3pt/draft control, etc, i have no place to do such a thing; and there are already enough broken down and less useful tractors on the family farm, and so much to do that there is no time for a project.

so if i get a chance to stop again i'll share the number with others (i forgot to write it down when i was there).

Karl, a 504 is awfully light to be picking up big bales with. It's a nice tractor but still a glorified Super C.

has same frame design as our 656 so figure would be close to minimum requirements.
my grandpa moved bales with a 464 all the time. that's way lighter looking!

The 656 was a shortened version of the 560, the first IH to have the seat moved forward so the 3 point hitch could work properly. They used some 460 drive train parts for the 656 but it was significantly heavier than the 504. It's the weight that's lacking on the 504.
