Replacing Seals

I'm at the point of changing both the transmission and hydraulic pump drive seals. I've got the pump out and the universal joint for the drive shaft apart. I don't now how to get at the drive shaft seal. How does the drive shaft U joint on the transmission come off?

Also, my M leaks where the axle housing bolts to the transmission. The parts man at the Case IH dealer suggested separating the housing from the transmission and sealing it with silicon. Good idea or bad? I'm getting ready for hay season; my M is a working tractor.

Charlie, neblinc responded to you in my thread about the same question. He showed how he did it on his website that he linked. Here is his response:
