What was it doing that you thought you had to rebuild the carb ? I very rarely have had to "rebuild" a carb on a running engine!! What was in your "rebuild" kit, a couple of gaskets and maybe a needle and seat ? Did you shake the float to see if it was full ? Did you follow ALL the instructions on float level ? Did you use the correct gaskets for your model ? That fifty year old carb isn't that complicated, a place to let fuel in, a place to let it idle, a place for power, and adjustments for all three.

did you CHECK the FLOAT to make sure it is GOOD ? it could have a pin hole in it makeing it heavy causing the needle not to seat.if you dont have a float level guage turn the body upside down and just eye up the float it should be sitting fairly level on the seat.theres other ways to check the fuel level, but im not going there yet.once you have it together set the main needle valve,(btm.)to 21/2 turns out. set idle adjust to 3/4 turn out.they start and run pretty dam good here.can fine tune later.the gov. shaft and butterfly work freely lined up in its slot. depends where your trottle is positioned, tells where the butterfly is sitting.tell us if you have good spark, so were not barking up the wrong tree.

Shut off the gas then try to start it.if it starts and runs till out of gas my bet its float sticking or dirt under the needle valve.

The first two things I would check 1.Is the throttle control from the Governor to the carb properly fitting at the carb end. 2. is the carb float cutting off the 'in' line properly when the bowl is full or is it sticking and allowing it to flood. I have an H that floods just for the fun of it but in truth it still starts ok MTF

the most important thing in a carb o/h is the soaking in carb cleaner and good air pres. to blow out the passages.just because you put in new gsks. that dont mean anything.nobody ever says if it was soaked, and then there talking about dirt in passages?how was it o/h then?i have cleaned many carbs just by soaking them and reused the old parts or made gsks.and the engine runs perfectly.the big problem is dirt and rust in there.you didnt say if you set the float level.needle and seat?--new or old? whats the main jet set at? is the gov. shaft lined up to the slot in butterfly?some little thing is over looked here.

no i'm not choking it. it seams that the fuel is just not getting to the cylinders. something is stoping it prior. there is a butterfly valve at the top of the carb that is controled by the engine. but when i mounted the carb it was open.

first check to see if you have good spark, check the cap for moisture. if the spark is good, drain some of the gas out of the carb into a glass jar and take a good look at it. see if it seperates and has water on the bottom. if so, bad gas, if not, and the carb doesnt drip when the engine is off and fuel on, float should be ok. try and give the motor a shot of starting fluid and see if it starts. if it does, drop the carb bowl and clean it out. could be some dirt in the load jet or any of the lil passageways.
