Diesel in mexico is 5.76 peso/litre which at todays exchange rate and converting from litres to gallons the price is 2.07 for diesel. In mexico the government owns all the gas stations and diesel is regulated not open to market forces... The 2.07 is for people driving commerical trucks which represents a 20% discount without the discount ,diesel is about 2.47 a gallon. You are allowed 100 gallons of fuel beyond what your tanks on you truck or car hold without paying a hefty terrif. Only down side is you might have to wait a long time to get back into the us. but at 50-60 percent off it would be worth the wait especally if your taking on 300 gallons. savings of 600`compared to the 4.20 diesel in the united states. on another note.... i do not buy diesel (fuel oil) to heat my home no more, it is cheeper to heat with electric. My home could use 10 gallons or more on a cold day. well no tax diesel is 3.69 at 37 bucks a day just for diesel.. for. that same 37 bucks i can buy 370 kilowatt hours which will run a 1000 watt heater for 370 hours. I have 5 heaters throught the house they are oil filled heaters and cost me an extra $200-$300 a month on my electric bill. so at todays diesels prices i save around 600 or more by using electric. plus you are sales tax excempt on your electric bill for the heating season. propaine is high now too i"m not sure if electric would be cheepeer in the long run. one nice thing about electric ther are capped at so much per kilo watt hour. i would like to hear comments on what your doing to take the sting out of high diesel cost ????? sorry for the long post....

The sh!tte that Pemex passes off as 'diesel' is unfiltered trash. I 'lived' in the lower RGV of Texas for many years, and the stench of it would burn your eyes and assault your nose.
Mexico has no standards for anything it produces, so you pays your pesos and takes your chances.

My home is electric with 2x6 construction and it does get cold here in winter; a real bad winter day will see a high of 50F and mid to high teens at night. Cummins HO is a 2001 that is capable of running on 5% biodiesel; 2002 and later Dodge Cummins pickups can run on 20% bio, I understand that Chevy and Ford diesels don't have that flexibility. My '47 Farmall M is an lpg conversion, probably in the '60s, lpg was $2.52/gal delivered to the property a couple of weeks ago. Diesel by comparison is an outrageous $4.01 gallon, but did see bottom of the tank stuff at $3.86/gal.

There's a lot of research being conducted with algae as bio, greater production output than corn with daily harvest and it only needs 2.5" of precip a year.

Im not pickin but I just chuckled at (real cold) Real cold here is -40 during the day without windchill, 50 above is a beutiful spring day, most all of heat with propane up here, but I think that will be coming to an end also. I did however heat my 40x50 shop to a balmy 60f all winter on 250 gal of propane, so I cant complain too much. I would like electric heat I think, But I dont have a big enough standby generator to run the place when the power drops for a week.

$2.07? Must have gone up some. Here in southeastern Mexico, there aren´t many diesel pickups. In fact, the only one I´ve seen besides snowbirds from US and Canada pulling campers through is my neighbor´s 2005 F-250 (he´s from Louisiana and brought it down from US). Even the 1 ton pickups run on gas or propane. Company I work with here has several newer F-450 trucks for transporting jet fuel and they all have the V-10.

I'm approaching retirement and live in the south where heating isn't a big deal but it get's very hot in summer. I've toyed with the idea of buying a place in say Nova Scotia or PEI where the summers are cool. Migrate south in the winter, north in the summer. Let nature do the heating and cooling.

Sold my diesel ford truck and now have a gas truck. I'm keeping an eye on the new diesel technology and may switch back as the economics dictate. If you're pulling a load you have no choice and you have to pass on the higher cost.

i dont hold much hope for newer diesel technology, at work we have a ford with the latest 07 emisions stuff, our older ones all got about 15 to 17 mpg, and our newest one is lucky to get 10mpg if ya drive it light and stay mostly highway. thank god my 89 dodge with a cummins gets about 22 mpg or i wouldnt be able to afford to go anywheres at all, even so it still was 80 bucks worth of fuel last time i went to new hampshire
