Could not get this old girl to fire this AM. I put her in last cause she's such a good runner. Had to push her out a few feet just to get at things. Charged up the battery last night and today I checked for spark....nope! Pulled the center wire off the distributor and checked the spark at the coil...nope! Got Dad's old Simpson meter out and started runnin continuity and found the wire from the starter to the meter was not getting the job done. Have no replacement handy so I pulled it off and cleaned the connections and got a lesson on how (NOT) to reconnect a starter....so I disconnected the ground and tried again WITHOUT the sparks and smoke....and rechecked my continuity. NOW I was getting some power on both sides of my lovely new (starting to malfunction) switch and at the coil. Checked the shifter for neutral one more time and fired her to life. Shut her off, pushed her out in the sun and put her all back together and went for a spin.
I said it before and I say it again...you guys are great teachers!!!

Going to replace that bad wire here pretty quick when I wire up those ebay lights I bought over the winter. Then on to another project...got two in the wings.

BTDT Just a word of caution. Yesterday I was doing about the same thing on my Cub. Somehow I got my ring finger to close to a battery cable, ya I didn't think to remove the ground cable. WELL! I branded my finger good!!! Next time I will remember to unhook that wire. :-(

I take off the ring....told the wife it cuts off the circulation...but mostly because I was a fireman for 5 years and got used to working around equipment without any type of jewelry.

Good news!

My BN was gettin' sassy toward the end of the winter. Had to go into the mag and clean up the rust from the condensation that got into it to get her startin' and runnin' right.

Don't know much about mags but I bet you got her purrin along! That sparking cable was a little scary and the smoke was really pouring off it. I think I will remember that one a while! Had a nice drive. Need to spend the weekend at basketball tournys but thinkin I will start on the lights Monday if not sooner so I can move on to the next project. I gots a hankerin to get that 2N running. Like to see if my success on the B these days is luck or if I really can fix these things! Confidence is high.
