Tony, make a wire clip and tie the trip rope to that and then attach the clip to your seat spring. Make the clip so that it slips off when the plow hits a rock and stops suddenly. My "H" has a small piece of thin metal with a hole in it that sticks back about 2 inches from the right bolt of the seat; the hole is for the plow rope.

I "struck out some lands" with my H and 2-16 Little Genius this forenoon. Gosh what fun. If the weather holds, us old guys will have 16 tractors (1959 & older)and plows playing in the dirt this Sat (19th). Local 4-H club will serve lunch. Hope to have a video of all the fun.

Hey Lowell,

Thanks for the tip. I finally fixed the spelling of your last name on the Little Genius webpage! Post some videos of that plow day if you can. I had a blast out there in the field the last couple days. Also just bought a McCormick-Deering No. 9A disk and got it fixed up enough to use. I'll restore it this summer.

Great video Tony! I really thought you were gonna squash the camera at the end!
Thanks for sharing it!

LOL! For that clip at the end, I put the camera in a glass jar to avoid getting dirt into it. I wanted the dirt to bury it, but that didn't work out (because the tractor wheel is in the furrow).

Thanks for the video, I am in the process of restoring virtually the same set up (42 H and little genius plow). It was nice to see the end results of what I am wanting to accomplish.

Rocky,

I have a Little Genius web page (see link below) that shows the restoration of mine. The H restoration is linked to it also. Post some pics when you get them done!

My father and two older brothers and myself used to plow a little over 200 acres every year with a 39 Farmall M. We had 2-14 at first, but then we talked dad into 3-14 latter on. When we fired her up in the spring, there was times we ran it around the clock, shutting it off only to add fuel or change oil.
I might add that it looked just a little wet, as it was slabbing up a little.

Boy that brought back a lot of memories. I spent many a 12-15 hour day pulling a 2-16in drag plow behind an Allis WC . Of course its hard to compare plowing conditions but it seems like the old WC might of had more power than what is displayed by the H?? I also spent a lot of time driving a F20 with a single 18 in drag plow. The F20 had more than enough power but did a lot of wheel spinning probably due to worn out tires. Great video-Thanks

Thanks. I have never used a WC before, so I don't know how they compare. But I was running in second, and I had the camera in one hand and my throttle slips, so if I don't hold onto the throttle and keep the RPM's up, she struggles, which is probably what you noted. She cruises right along in third with no problem. I need to weld-up the notch on the throttle lever. This is new ground (hasn't been plowed in many decades, so I have been going really slow. I popped the spring hitch a couple of times on giant rocks and luckily I didn't have the trip-rope tied to the seat...

Great video BTDT (ALOT), use a drawpin safety keep and slip the rope into it wire it to convenient place saves trip rope BTDT too.

Thanks, I'll try that. I had just been sitting on the rope, but that is a pain, as everytime I got off the tractor to pull a root out of the plow, I had to fool with that rope.

I quess I now rate as an old timer. Younger folks always comment on how hard we use to work. Well we did work hard but then you have to remember that you didn't have to farm 1000 acres or more back then to make a living so plowing 10 acres or so a day was all that we needed. An average farmer in northern Kansas only farmed 160 acres and only 1/3 to 1/2 of that was row crop with the remainder being pasture or hay ( which you only turned over every 5 yrs or so). We didn't expect 4-8 bottom plows , enclosed cabins with AC etc. The Allis WC , JD A's and Farmall H/M's were quite adequate for what we needed. Most people had moved up to these tractors from Horses ( I'm not that old but I do remember my Uncles working horses )so any of these tractors seemed great.

lordy, that makes me think of my grandpa. He said back in the day he would spend MONTHS plowing with his Farmall M. He added power steering to his. I notice from your video how hard it must be to control that steering wheel the whole time. Thanks for sharing.

It sure is a blast, but I have a new appreciation for the amount of time the old timers had to spend in that tractor to plow, not to mention disking, harrowing, and cultivating!
