how can you tell if your cam gear is off an m or a super m? i busted mine with live hyd. and bought a replacement but it said fits For M, Super M, W6, Super W6, 400, 450 Gas. do they look the same? is one just thicker than the other?
it's already installed and my tractor is back up but now i'm gunshy on the use of my hyd untill i know it is from a super m or i install a In-Line Hydraulic Relief Valve Thanks guys

Don't worry about it and run it , what is the worst that could happen . the next time the job will be easier.

the early cam gear was a lighter casting, and had holes around the inside. the upgrade gear is heavier, and has only the holes in it to access the bolts that hold the cam in.

the one i installed has 3 holes around the center where the shaft goes threw. 3/4" to 1" around

click on the marketplace on the top left tractor parts, click on farmall intl, then select super m. click on engine parts, it will show a pic of the new stlye cam gear. i tried to post a link, but it dint work.

Part No: 6760DB thats what they sent me
but the part numbers are the same for the m and the super m. so by this i have a super m cam gear ?

IH started installing cam gear 6760 DB on tractors in 1955, then the gear became the standard replacement part for all C-248, C264, and C-281 engines. Thats why all later printing of parts books show the same gear for M,SM,400 and 450. Some early printings of SM parts books show early SM using the same cam gear, 6760 D as most M tractors. Cam gear 6760 DA was used in at least part of the SM tractors and in SMTA has a thicker center than 6760 D.
