Has anyone ever gotten insurance to give hay rides? My command is having a picnic at the end of the month, and we were considering giving hay rides with my tractor. But I need to get outside insurance. I called USAA, and they say that's not a policy they would write.
Anyone know where I can go shopping for something like this? Does anyone have any themselves?

Hi Mike, I just read a post of yours today and then went back and read some of the other threads that were referred to. (I had not read them before cause I just look for the subjects that contain something I want to learn or if it is something I know about that I can offer advice on.)

Anyway, it appears you are new to tractor driving. If you have never pulled a 4 wheel hay rack then you need to get out and practice a few hours with an empty one. They can get very squirrelly when being pulled and want to wander all over. If it swerves over, side swipes something, and flips over or if it just starts swerving so much because of the speed, it can flip over out of control. I've lost a trailer once and had a number of close calls and when a trailer starts swerving, often times there is a point of no return.

You also need to be concerned because if you cut a corner too sharp and the corner of the trailer catches the tread on a rear wheel, you will be dead and those on the trailer will be going over. The tire will grab and pull it on you so fast you probably won't have time to think about it even if you are looking right at it, much less even think about turning the wheel or using a brake to stop it.

Back in the 60's, our state required all us kids to take a tractor safety course and included various driving maneuvers. Farm kids and even city kids wanting to learn to work on a farm during the summer took it. CA probably has one.

Good luck and I'm just trying to be helpful here so don't take offense.

Suggest some preventative maintenance in that you put a rack on the front of the wagon to keep folks from sitting in front. Folks that fall off the front of the wagon are more apt to get run over than those on the sides or end.

Better have it is all I can say. I know a girl who fell off, got pushed off, clowned around, anyway how they didn't say but she ended up with her head rolled over by the rear wheel a couple years ago. Kinda takes the fun out of things.

Mike, I"ve tried in vain to get hayride insurance by the year as I do about 10 a year. If you find a company that will write a year long policy please notify me. Thanks, Bo
