I bought the tractor a couple of weeks ago. Steering, clutch, and hydraulics worked fine. Thought I would change all the filters. Changed the trans filter took out a Wix filter and put in a Fleet Guard from the dealer. The transmission oil level was at the low mark before the filter change. I changed the filter, then filled it to the full mark. Started the tractor, the transmission light blinks, along with the Alt. lite. they won't quit. The alt. lite might be a wire problem because it has others too. I pressed in on the clutch several times, I can shift into the gears but if you let out on the clutch it doesn't move. I did however get the tractor to move once then shifted gears and then nothing again. I read the manual on how to purge the air out if there might be some. The tractor has a loader on it so I lifted the front wheels off the ground and turned the steering back and forth several times but it was still very hard to do. I moved the hyd. levers back and forth several times too. I am going to hook a hyd. cylinder up to the hydraulics tommorrow and see if I can get that to work. The PTO, which has it's own pump works fine. Any ideas?

Thanks, Dan

Got the oil pressure back all's working.... in reply to Dan Swanson, 04-12-2008 19:17:44
Tried turning the steering wheel as suggested, no go. Hooked up a hyd. cylinder and cycled the cylinder back and forth six or seven times, I then heard the MCV pump pick up and all is working fine. Thanks for the info.

A simple way to BLEED the system is to run the engine at 1800-2100 RPM and TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT and this will BLEED the trapped air . NOW if his does not work then it is time for a new MCV pump . Now as to the tell tale lite for the alt , it may be a bad connection and it may be that the alt . thought that this was a good time to die.

Dan, Several things can cause this, to get it primed locate a plug on the left side below the oil pressure sending unit, it faces the rear of tractor and takes a 5/8 wrench. Remove that plug then apply air pressure to the filler dipstick tube "no more or no longer than needed" at the same time crank starter until oil squirts out. Replace plug and start engine. If pump and unit is okay this should get it working, if the problem repeats itself you may have a bad pump or an air leak caused by a poor o-ring, then find a good mechanic to help you. Good luck, Chuck
