Here"s another question from the newbie H owner.
I received my manuals on my H today and all the info/pics in them all show the distributor cap and coil mounted horizontally. On my "39, they"re both mounted vertically. Any idea"s? Doesn't seem to have any affect on operation that I'm aware of.
Thanks in advance!
Tom

I agree that the Delco is fine but you see posts by some that advance curve has to be exact and matched to tracor (I have not found that to be true) and the Delco came as one fits all.

Tom - As the others mention the Delco vertical distributor is an aftermarket replacement for the original magneto.

The Delco distributor works just as well as the horizontal IHC distributor. Just be aware when you are buy tune up parts (cap, rotor, points, etc) they are different from - and NOT interchangeable with - those for the IHC distributor. So be sure you get parts for the Delco unit!

The vertical Delco was not installed at the factory, it preceded the IH distributer which became common several years later.

Your 39 would have had a magneto originally and it has been changed over using the Delo-Remy ignition which is right for the tractor. Its a little easier to install points & condenser in.
