Picked this up a few weeks ago. Knocked the pistons loose, replaced one sleeve I cracked, and dropped in a new set of rings. Set the sleeves in last Friday, installed the pistons/head/oil pan Saturday, and rigged her up to run Sunday. To my surprise, she started right up on gas, and after bleeding the diesel system, she switch over with no hesitation. Now, I'm on the long road to cleaning her up/getting everything working.

BTW, I also just acquired a 450 Gas. They will make a good pair of haying tractors.

Looks like a good project. As far as saving fuel, we still use a 400 for baling and 560D for raking. It'll be a shock when we have to upgrade.

Looks good... I believe those diesels are relatively efficient/easy on the fuel for the work they do.

I'm thinking of mowing with the A this year and raking with the C... might use a tad less fuel than the H's, LOL. Of course, Dad plans on raking with the 1086 so he has cab and AC.

Sounds like you know your diesels and work fast!Strange looking L rear tire. What brand is that? I use a SH for mowing and raking, save a little fuel, but get the Big Dog (966) out for the baling. Gordo

Left rear is a Goodyear, right rear is an Armstrong. I don't think it's visible in the picture but the valve stem opening it the rim was repaired with a piece of diamond plate. Very hillbilly.

Gordo, this actually the first diesel I've ever messed with. Pretty easy, but manhandling the head by myself got a little tricky. Two injectors leak, but I've got parts coming. When I pulled them apart, none of them were the same. The washers were different, or missing, or in the wrong place. I noticed today the pump fills up with diesel, so I imagine I have a seal out.

All the time I was putting her back together the starting mechanism worked perfectly. Now, the stupid thing won't stay locked to the gasoline position. Guess I'll have to run through the adjustments again.
