im 44 yrs old today the 9 sometimes i just cant remember nuthin anymore . heres the deal. can i replace the rear main bearing in a 123engine without removing the rear seal housing? havent been in a engine since 01 looking at mains and rod bearings i see std .002, .010 .020 ,.030 why would a person need with these .002 bearings? :?

thanks pete thats what my book said but i was thinking that i had put bearings in one without doing that it might just be a case of C>R>S :shock:

Oops, mis-read your post. Thought you were talking about the seal. Bear in mind that mine's a 113, but both my I&T and IH service manual state that "to remove the rear main bearing cap it is necessary to first remove the crankshaft rear oil seal retainer plate".

Terry, I have a 113, but if your seal assembly looks like this...

then the felt seal sits in a groove within.
