Looking at buying a 806 gas tractor. Need to know how good the gas engine is on a 806 or should I pass this tractor up.
4400 hours on the engine

thanks for the input

I'm retired and farm just a small hobby farm of 40 acres.
I like my 806 gas,
with gasoline in these parts @ $3.35 and diesel @ $4.05 it is about the same cost per acre.
yes, gassers use more fuel.
If I plow with my J.D 730 diesel pulling 4-14's and the 806 pulling 5-14's. In the same 20 acre field,
the cost per hour is more for the 806G. but the 806 gets the chore done quicker, so the cost per acre is not that much more as it takes less time with the 806.
Thus less gallons used It has been said that the John Deere 70/730 is the most fuel efficient tractor of it's time.

I use the 806 G. to plow/fit and the 730 to plant I enjoy using both.
just my .02 cents worth

It will suck about 8 to9 gal an hour if you pull it hard. Been there done that.

If I remember right 806 gassers were a sleeveless engine. 1st overhaul you bored them and put oversize pistons in .2ond time you junked it as cyl. walls were too thin to bore again. At 5000hr. it is probably ready for the latter.

Gassers don't run much past 5,000 hours and then it is time for a total overhaul.

Probably why it is for sale?

What will you be doing with the tractor? Restoration and show, it would be ok, cost less for repairs than diesel. If you are going to be using for farming, that is another thing, then you might want to consider fuel usage. Just my 2 centavos.
