Check that rubber tip on the needle, if someone pushed on it when attempting to adjust the float then there could be a dimple or ring in the rubber and not allowing it to seal, I have seen this happen, the old style metal ones will not do that. If this is the case you will probably have to replace the needle and seat.

In addition to the advice below here’s a few more things to check:

- Double check sure nothing’s fouling the float needle seat – a grain of rust, a bit of of teflon pipe tape, a burr on the needle or seat, etc.

- Check both float pontoons are not waterlogged. If you shake the float and hear anything sloshing inside, replace it!)

- If the float needle is all metal, remove the float then with the throttle body casting inverted give the needle a couple light hammer taps to shape the tip to match the seat. (NOTE! DON’T do this if the float needle has a viton (rubber) tip!)

- Before putting the carb bowl back on test the float valve: Mount the throttle casting to the manifold and reconnect the gas line. Now turn on the gas and hold and float up with light finger pressure. You should get go gas whatsoever from the float valve (no dripping) with the float held up.

If the shop that rebuilt your carb used an aftermarket needle and seat, then there is a good chance the carb is going to drip or flood, unless they added about 1/8" to the recommended float setting of 1 + 5/16". mike

Not true. Most, if not all aftermarket float valve assemblies are manufactured to the original IH specs.

The needle may shut off perfectly on the needle valve seat but there may be a leak between the valve seat and the body of the carb. HTH, Hendrik

Did the shop that rebuilt the carb install a new packing gland in the load adjustment screw?

for a simple carb, them things can cause you more grief than an ex wife. i think they are possessed by carb gremlins. some things to check that i have come across are. first check the float to see if its bent and or dragging on the side of the carb bowl. check the needle and seat for burrs. check the shaft that holds the float, if it fits loose, it can slide out and make the float stick, you may need to squeeze the one post with pliers to get it to hold better. check the bowl gasket to see if it sticks too far in and is holding the float down. check the bowl for any cracks, check also for cracks around the main jet too.
