I did a compression test on my tractor and all 4 cylinders are around the 120 range. When I start up my tractor I would get blow by coming thru the breather on my valve cover and then it would eventually have oil on the valve cover and motor.

I have since piped with flex pipe & pvc from my valve cover to my rear axle so I at least dont have to breathe that stink.

I noticed yesterday that when I removed my oil-air filter the smoking stopped from my valve cover? No blow by at all. I am using a non-detergent oil.

Do I need a thicker oil bath oil?

Can I take off the oil air filter & replace it with a air filter (a junk-yard run to remove a complete air filter system off a car)?

If I take off the oil air filter & replace it with a automotive type air filter, is there any chance of hurting the engine?

Will a automotive air filter give me more power?

Thanks for the help.

Hi Hunter, Are you using 30wt. oil in the air cleaner? Sometimes using to light of oil will cause this. Over filling the cup will do the same. As far as using a paper type element, I have used both. Will it hurt, no. I would think it all depends on what your using the tractor for depending on the conditions. Good Luck,
Charles
