1955 cub- runs 1 minute, dies. Pull the starter and choke one time and she fires up and runs another minute, then dies, etc. Rebuilt carb and made no difference. What's up?

Chances are you have a bunch a rust in your tank. Clean out the sediment bowl now and then you have the same problem next week when another chunk of rust breaks off. You may be looking at doing some type of acidizing/cleaning on your tank to get rid of the rust.

Cleaned the sediment bowl- the screen, as well as the throat from the tank was plugged. Runs like a new one. Thanks for all the advice.

Great advice. I did disconnect the fuel line and I have a poor flow from the tank. Sediment bowl and/or fuel line must be clogged. If it is running out of fuel, it just amazes me at how fast it will restart. Will try to remove the sediment bowl without taking the whole tractor apart. THANKS!!!

I would loosen/remove the gas cap and see if it runs.

I would suggest doing a little trouble shooting. One way to determine if the problem is fuel or ignition would be to hook up a timing light and then run the motor while observing the timing light (not looking at the timing marks, just looking to see if the light is flashing). Then, when the motor dies, was the timing light still flashing as the motor coasted to a stop? If so, then your ignition is OK and the problem is most likely fuel.

Bought a 1976 Cub several years ago that was having the same problem. After getting it home, I installed new points and condensor and a voltage reducer between ignition switch and coil. The reducer was intended for a Plymouth. The 12 volts was burning points up.

That's because somebody installed a 6V coil on your Cub by mistake.

If you install a "voltage reducer" (aka ballast resistor) when it is not necessary, you will get a weak spark and the tractor may not run at all.

Make sure your intake and carburetor are snug. Don't overtighten. Sounds like its starving for fuel. Pull the gas line at the carburetor and check for a full stream of gas. Hold a clean container to catch the gas. If there's a full stream here pull that fitting on the carburetor
and check that screen that's been mentioned. It could full of rust & dirt. If there's just a trickle of gas from the gas line you have blockage in the gas tank. Hal

Could be your float needs adjusting. The float may not be able to travel far enough to allow fuel in as fast as you are burning it. Good Luck,

Did you rebuild the carb from a complete kit? Did you replace every component, or completely inspect, clean, and blow out every component?

Theres also a screen in the inlet of the carb that is overlooked.Do you have a inline filter in the fuel line? Take it out if you do and make sure the screen is clean in the sediment housing above the bowl.

Yep maybe a screen in the elbow fitting that goes into the carb. Not familiar with Cubs though.

if your coil gets hot it will quit, then cools off then starts again until get hot, check the coil, sounds like spark ,my 2 cents.

Check your fuel supply, turn fuel off at sediment bowl, remove fuel line from carb, turn fuel back on. You should have a good stream of fuel. Sometimes dirt will lodge in the inlet of fuel sediment bowl.
