After trying out the 140 on location(eveything worked fine), the man delivered it free, with all the equip. Keep in mind that when I get a Farmall home, they all go to crap. I paid the man, got it off the roll-back, and it cut off twice before getting to the shed. Carb. needs a re-build, and probably a sediment bowl(here we go). Never fails..... ..

This may sound somewhat crazy, but it works: If you have a rusty tank and fuel intermittantely clogs the line coming out of the gas tank, get a reasonably strong but small magnet and attach it on the outside of the tank behing the bowl (you will find a "sump" (lower spot). All rust is ferous and once it detaches from the tank wall (with slooshing, etc), it will be immediately drawn to the magnet and not go thru your fuel line. I had a 230 that this method stopped the stopping...Shrps 74

I like that magnet idea, Sharps! It ought to work. Thanks!

I bet that's it. Probably all the sloshing around on the trailer ride knocked all the rust in the tank loose. Like everyone says, clean out the tank and the fuel lines and you'll probably have it.

Tab: Just slow down and don't do anything in haste. It could be as Tom suggests, dirt or rust plugging the sediment bowl stem. Loosen the fuel line at the carb, see what kind of fuel flow you have. That will tell you whether it's sediment bowl or carb.

Then on the elbo into the carb there is a screen. If those two check out, internal carb is next. When you checked this all out, very likely a good cleaning is in order. Don't go roaring off to the parts counter. I've put these carbs back together and used them years after mechanical minds said they were worn out. Remember the slogan on original IH gas caps, "Buy clean fuel and keep it clean". That worked for 30 years, then we started getting a thing called rust on the inside of our fuel tanks. Especially bad on tractors parked long periods with little fuel in the tank, then you go and use the tractor and wash all the rust down from fuel slop. A sediment bowl works well for taking off water, now if we could install a rust crusher so that bloomin rust would flow through the sediment bowl stem and not the screen, we'd have this thing licked.

Thank y'all for the advice. It's been kinda messy around here, so I haven't fooled with the tractor. I think y'all are right about the roll-back ride and the sloshing. I'll check it out this afternoon. I usually install an in-line fuel filter on these anyway, so once I get it all cleaned and checked out, that's what I'm probably going to do. Again, Thanks to all of you!....Tab

Tab: What did I just finish telling you, " clean it up and stay out of the parts store," Take that inline filter and heave it, the factory original screens in the sediment bowl and entrance to carb have worked well over the years.

I 've got one of these tractors I've owned for 50 years, it's worked well with factory screens. I've owned 5 other offsets and several other gassers and never bought an inline filter in my 65 years. My Farmall 300 must have 25,000 hours on it by now with no inline filter. Those things spell nothing but trouble for graviety systems.

I used to have the same problem over and over with the old offset farmalls--Now the first thing
I do when I start with another one is to pull the gas tank, clean it of rust, soot, etc, then
apply a liner--Then get everything clean through
the carb--Have done many tractors over the years
with excellent results-- Good luck--Glynn

Sounds like rust in the gas tank. I'd hold off on the carb rebuild for now.
