i have a '49 H. 6 volt pos ground. new coil, new battery, just had gen off and checked out, it is working. It starts with no trouble, but will run only a few minutes before it dies. Sounds like it is running out of fuel. I checked when it died and there is gas at the carb, and it runs out of the bottom of the carb when i loosen the screw on the bottom. After it dies, it will start with choke after about 30 seconds, but dies again in about 30 seconds. i thought it may be the coil, so I replaced it, still does the same thing. Could it be a sticking carb float? any suggestions appreciated. Thank You!
EH

I have a 52 H I had a similar problem. Sometimes the fuel line can be partially clogged. The fuel runs our and the tractor dies. Then by the time you check the carb the fuel has had enough time to fuel the carb so it runs out and starts. Remove the gas line from the carb and see how good a stream of gas you are getting.

If it is not fuel, check the air-cleaner cup for dirt build-up. It could be limiting air flow.

I had a similar problem with my F14 and my 300U. On the F14 the old steel gas line was corroded real bad on the inside. Replacing it fixed the problem. On my 300U there was junk getting into the fuel outlet in the tank. If you don't have a screen in the sediment bowl junk in the tank can get past the bowl if its real bad.

Thats a typical fuel problem, and you have not checked it out accurately. As others have said, having fuel run out at the carb does not mean you have unrestricted flow, Fuel should flow continuously when you pull the line and let it into a container, after a couple of minutes you will know. Incidentally your blockage will be in the screen in the fuel bowl, very typical of an H. I had a neighbour who had tractor problems and he said he had fuel flow..and he did, it flowed real well for about eight seconds then it dried up..if you waited a few minutes until it trickled in you would have good flow again...for about eight seconds..... .

You say gas runs out the drain plug at the bottom of the carb but for how long. You need to open it and make sure you have a good steady flow for at least 5 minutes or more. If you don't work your way back to see where you loose the flow. Could also be the condenser as Toro says

Take the fuel line off, and let it run in a gas can for a couple of minutes to ensure there is no blockage in the tank itself. It sounds as if the carb fills up, you start and run it, then the carb is starved for gas, it kills, then slowly fills up again to enable restarting.

I would replace the condenser to see if that's the problem. Read my email if that doesn't fix the problem. Hal
