Remember the running of the Super C with half choke problem? Well I fixed it. What I found out is that I don’t know how to clean or adjust a single barrel carburetor. I bought a new one and all problems gone. After buying a carburetor kit, carburetor cleaner, sweating for weeks cleaning and adjusting, and blowing all holes out I thought, I’m still a failure. What threw me and lead me astray was I put on a spare carburetor and had same problem. Well when I do find the problem with them I’ll have two good spares.

Thanks for all your help, I really appreciated it.

Joe

Joe,

I just put a carb together for my Super C and found that the new float bowl gasket has the hole for the vent punched in the wrong place.

Now I can't remember which was which, but i think the drilling from the carb inlet comes up at an angle and gasket blocks it from getting to the bowl.

The new gasket has a round hole for the vent, when it should be a slot. Careful work with a punch will fix it.

Greg

I agree with you Bob. you can put all the new parts in that you want, but if theres a passage plugged it wont help one bit.running with 1/2 choke on suggests this.i want a whack at that carb too.

Good luck with the other guy. Let us know what he figures out, as there IS a solution to that carb problem.

Had the same problem with my A about THIRTY years ago. Went by salvage yard ran by a friend and he said he did not have a good carb but I have this one I will give you. All that was wrong with carb was one of the mounting tabs had been broken and welded back, put it on and it has not been touched since and still runs near perfect. I have been using one of those in line filters that have such a bad name on this forum all these years so I quess I am lucky it runs at all.

Carbs are very unforgiving. Sometimes just the presence of material affects the flow even in an "open" passage. I glad it is not going to be blown to bits. JimN

Joe,

You probably aren't as bad as you think. Those carburetor kits are close to useless. All they have is a couple of new gaskets and maybe a needle valve for the float. often, the problem is the main jet(s) in the carburetor are just wore out. Those kits just don't have the parts you really need. We tinkered with my neighbors IH 350 utility for a long time and finally gave up. He bought a new carburetor and it runs perfect to this day.

For just a few dollars more, you could have purchased a "complete" rebuild kit, and then you would have all new idle jets, metering tube, idle mix adjustment screw, load adjustment screw, needle valve and seat, and ALL the gaskets.

I have YET to see a tractor carburetor jet "just wore out"!

Almost certainly, there is a "secret passage" or two deep inside his carburetor that is clogged, or sealing problems in the venturi area.

I wish I could spend on hour alone with the old carb.

I'd bet a buck or two that it would run a heck of a lot better when I got done with it!
