I have a 1967 Farmall 706 with the German diesel. The last couple times I have gone to start it I have to jump it. I got into looking to it tonight to see if I have a problem or is it just time for new batteries. My question is what should the output of the alternator be? I was not able to find the answer. Thanks for your help.

Check the specific gravity of each battery cell with a hydrometer. This will tell you the condition of the batteries. They should all read around 1.250 or better. You need to fully charge
the batteries before doing this. The charging voltage should be near 14.5 volts from your alternator and can be checked with a volt meter with the engine around 1/2 to 3/4 throttle. Unhook the ground cable over night and then see if the tractor will start. If that alternator has an internal regulator it may be the cause of the battery drain. Hal

13.5 to 14.5 volts while running another thing to look at is you say ya have to jump start something could be pulling the battery down you can take a 12v lite that has two leads remove the negative battery cable and connect one lead to the cable and connect the other lead to the battery if the bulb lites up you have something pulling current if it dont i would then have the batteries checked
