Just bought a cyclo 400 planter set up for no till at auction this week and have a few questions about it. Can this planter use any shape seed to plant? Also can I run it without the monitor? It didnt come with one at the auction and at the moment I really don't have the funds to buy one since I have 2 tractors that need split to replace the rear main seals this spring. Are there any quirks about these planters that I should be aware of? I know alot of people dont like them because of the seed skips and doubles but some of the farmers I've talked to say that happens when the seed brushes need adjusted. Sorry for all the questions I don't have a manual for it yet. (the planter will be used to no till 60 acres of corn this spring)

Tell the naysayers to take a hike.

The "skips and drops" were caused by an operator not knowing what he was doing. The Cyclos were one of the best planters that ever came down the pike.

Keep the drive chains snug, always lower it into the ground "on the run" and make sure your ground speed is exactly as the chart says.

If there is any signs or remnants of a monitor system, throw it away. You don't want it anyway. They are a total PITA.

Just "watch" your rows as you lift on the ends; you'll see them "dribble seed" a bit, which is telling you all is well.

Can run without a monitor if you don't mind digging once in a while.. Keep all the drive chains and the drum drive gears free of backlash to keep spacing as close as it can be. They were notorious in our area for being shoddy spacing for corn but good for beans. If your no-tilling make sure all your down pressure springs are good, no broke coils. Don't know if you can run coulters as an option, no experience in that field.

I have a 400, love it. I have a extra tool bar in front of the other two that the no till coulters mount to. It had AC wavy coulters with a rubber joint for down pressure. I sold them, but bought some IH plow coulters. Haven't tried to mount them. The planter came with whistles on each seed tube. Just turn on the fan, and plug the seed tube with your finger and adjust the whistle so it works. Then You will know if it plugs up. Any body know if plow coulters will mount for no till?
