My I&T manual states... "release lever height from friction face of pressure plate to release bearing contacting surface on release levers"

...should be 2 3/8 inches.

My just-out-of-the-box plate from IH measures some 3 1/4 inches in that exact dimension. Dumb-*ss that I am, I left my old pressure plate at IH, so I have nothing to compare.

It"s a BIG difference. And the "adjusting" bolt and "lock" nut have yellow paint over them, as though they were not to be moved.

Can anyone set me straight on this?

Thanks

The lever height is the installed measurement. Do not change them. They are adjusted correctly when it was built. The yellow paint is there to show if they are changed. Breaking the paint seal will void any warranty on the pressure plate assembly.

Haven't had my Joe yet...ooops.Those adjusting nuts stay where they are...the adjusting is after you get it on the flywheel and bolted down...Sorry

You will notice when you get it bolted down it will reduce that gap considerably, those are set at the factory that rebuilt it.THEN you adjust the linkage!! for your pedal travel....Whew! and make sure those plate bolts are properly torqued or you'll be tearing it down again sooner than you wish(experience talking!)

The Linkage is extended all the way out.as it should when your previous plate gave out.Clean off paint,Spin back your Linkage all the way back in.Replace your clutch,Reset linkage back out to spec.adjust to taste..... ..

Coax, the paint is on the adjustment hardware on the pressure plate. The fingers don't measure what it calls for in the book. Should I leave them where they are, at 3 1/4 inches?

No,the release Bearing presses up against those fingers. So the face of the bearing(and the linkage holding it)needs to be adjusted towards the fingers so when you press the clutch the total travel is 2 3/4"I believe the book has a picture showing how the adjustment works. On Cars the bearing is called a Throwout bearing. All older manual clutches work the same..Mechanically anyway...
