Im inquiring with a fella about a super H with the following serial number. SH48028J

Acording to all the lists I have found, this number is wrong. While I have not seen the tag yet, Im wonduring if it may have been doctured.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks
Sleepy

The man says that he acquired the tractor years ago and knows nothing about serial numbers on old Farmall tractors. I will check the casting numbers.

Thanks
Sleepy

Why immediately go to the tag being "doctored?" There are plausible explanations why the number doesn't jive:

1. He's dyslexic and is mixing up the order of the digits.

2. The tag is hard to read, and he's interpreting the numbers incorrectly. It could easily be 18028J, or 4802XJ.

3. He's giving you the serial number from the wrong tractor. Maybe he's got a Super M too, and got the two serial numbers mixed up in his head.

Before you all start accusing the man of being a liar and a thief, get the numbers off the engine and castings. Heck, go look at the tag in person.

Look at the casting letters on all the major components and see if their the same, then check the letter, that will give you the year, approximately.

If its a true Super H,the letters will be X,Y,OR Z ON THE CASTINGS.

SH Serials are from 501-29285. Dib't know why anyone would change it to a number completely out of that range -- ask the guy to look at it.
