On March 11 an auction will be held in Fowlerville, Mi. (Schrader Bros?) Anyway, there is a nice 460 utility at this auction. Nice tin, recently restored. What would be it's value?
Has about 4700 hours. Thanx, Irv

A Farmall 460 Utility will probably bring a Lot More than an International 460 Utility, I wonder if this tractor has been restored?

The tractor is either a Farmall 460 (row crop) or a International 460 Utility. There is no such thing as a Farmall 460 Utility although there is a International 460 Hi Clear (row crop).

My dad bought a 460 utility 1 year ago for $4300
It had a loader on that was entirely junk. Yhe tractor itself was completely repainted and looked excellent.Tires about 80%. Since then we have rebuilt TA, put an IH 2000 loader on, completely rewired, changed all fluids, new frostplugs, some new gauges, new brakes, whatever else that didnot appear to be upto a perfectionists standards. The tractor starts excellent in the cold even after sitting for weeks.Runs good and seems very sturdy. They say the ppower steering units in these are not any good and we actually broke a piece in ours.We were able to make a replacement piece with some engineering ingenuity and common sense and no trouble since. I think it is a solid tractor at around 54hp.

the 460 utility was maybe the worst tractor that IH ever made....my father-in-law had one, it was low-slung, underpowered, a hard-starting diesel, and a good Super M would have drug it backwards with no problem...be very careful before buying a 460 Utility...or any 460....they're made on the original H transmission ....over-priced and over-sold..... superCmore

Farmall 460's gave excellent service in our area and were a popular and well liked tractor with few problems.

The 460 is a straight 6 engine, gas it looks like.
I think it said Farmall on the front, but I will stop by today to verify this. It has been restored, If I can I will take a photo and scan it in. Adios, Irv.

I had a 460 Utility in the 70's and it was the best tractor I ever owned. I resently found one and bought it, the first one I have found for sale since I sold my first 460 in 1978. They tend to be abused by ignorent people who are prone to misuse equipment because the 460 U is so tough. If it has not been abused (you can tell by looking for stress cracks in the frame and/or stripped out or broken off bolts, bent steering parts and banged up sheet metal) unrestored they bring between $3500 needing work but running to $5000 for an all original in good shape still running well. When you are looking for a restored tractor be sure the job was done right the first time by ?'s to the person who did the work or you might pay for a restored tractor but then end up paynig to re-do it later any way. I have never seen a 460 Utility Farmall, only an International 460 Utility, watch out for the white side panels being exchanged with a Farmall, the much higher and longer farm model. Find a good 460 Utility and restore and treat it well it will serve you for many years and keep its value.
